Do you have a building in Laarbeek and want to do something for the climate? Make sure that rainwater no longer runs into the sewer (disconnection). Maybe you can get a contribution (subsidy) from the municipality and/or the water board.
Long dry or hot spells followed by heavy showers are becoming more frequent
We want to better protect Laarbeek from this and prevent flooding. But the municipality cannot do this alone. Because about 50 to 70% of the land in built-up area belongs to residents. By collecting rainwater on your own property, you help.
Why disconnect stormwater from the sewer system?
- Rainwater is clean; it is a waste to mix it with dirty sewage.
- Less chance of water in the street and flooding in the home and neighborhood.
- It saves energy because the water no longer needs to be pumped and cleaned.
- Combats desiccation by sinking water into the soil.
- Good for plants and animals in the streams because less dirty water flows from the sewers into the streams.
- Less chance of streams overflowing.
How does stormwater disconnection work?
- Rainwater no longer goes to the public sewer. For example, by cutting downspouts.
- Water runs into a lowering or ditch in the garden, or into underground infiltration crates or gravel boxes.
- The water sinks into the soil.
Examples can be found at www.riool.info and www.huisjeboompjebeter.nl
What are the conditions for a contribution?
- Work has not yet begun.
- The roof area to be disconnected is within the municipality of Laarbeek.
- A minimum of 15 m2 and a maximum of 1,000 m2 of contiguous roof area will be disconnected.
- Rainwater from the disconnected roof area will be collected on-site, in a water storage area to be constructed.
- The water storage can hold a minimum of 30 liters of rainwater per m2 of disconnected roof area.
- Collected water is infiltrated or delayed runoff on private property.
- If there is an infiltration facility, its bottom is above the mean highest groundwater level (GHG).
- When stormwater is discharged underground to an infiltration facility, all downspouts will have a leaf collector and a sand trap will be installed.
- The water storage is designed to reduce peak discharges and not cause a nuisance to adjacent parcels.
- The water storage facility may have an overflow facility for stormwater runoff during heavy showers when the facility is full. If possible, this overflow facility shall be above ground level.
- You must be able to visibly or accessibly check that water storage is working.
- The water storage must be drained within 5 days (at a maximum of 2 millimeters of precipitation per 24 hours).
- Only building owners (or someone authorized by an owner) can apply for a contribution.
The contribution is for:
- buildings in the municipality of Laarbeek at least 5 years old
- where rainwater is legally discharged to the public sewer system without delayed discharge
- and the public sewer system drains stormwater to the sewage treatment plant
The contribution is not for:
- Buildings connected to separate sewers (Strijp, Beekse Akkers, Hoge Regt, Revershof, Nieuwenhof-Noord, Hooge Suute, etc.).
- Buildings connected to the pressure sewer system (outdoor area).
- Roofs that have already been disconnected. As with projects in Wilhelminastraat (Aarle-Rixtel), Nachtegaallaan, 't Hof (Beek en Donk), Dorpsstraat, Kuiperstraat, Papenhoef (Lieshout) and Bernadettestraat (Mariahout).
- A rain barrel.

- We make a decision (possibly after verification) about paying the contribution.
How much money is there?
The incentive contribution is € 2.50 per m2 of disconnected roof area, with a maximum of € 2,500 per application. There is a maximum budget (grant ceiling) per calendar year. In 2020 this is € 25,000,-In the first 9 months of the year, 60% (€ 15,000,-) of the budget is reserved for applications from owners who are not legal entities. Such as companies, foundations, etc.). Subsidy Water Board Aa and Maas
Waterschap Aa en Maas also has a subsidy for climate measures. The schemes of the municipality of Laarbeek and Waterschap Aa en Maas are stackable. That means you can get a subsidy from both the municipality and the water board!
